Lizzo Repeatedly Doesn't Credit the "About Damn Time" Choreographer

 It's about damn time Lizzo takes the five seconds to tag someone.

Undeniably, "About Damn Time" is one of, if not the, song of summer 2022. Thanks in part to its constant repeat across TikTok, made possible by the dance created by Jaeden Gomez. Jaeden first posted the video of her dancing to the song in her kitchen back on April 22. The good vibes and amateur-friendly choreography helped it to quickly spread as a trend. It became so popular, Lizzo herself repeatedly did the dance herself, and even performed it at the BET Awards last month.

Now, Lizzo regularly talks about how her journey to fame was tough, so if there was anyone that I would expect to appreciate the plight of artists and the importance of acknowledging their work, it would be her. Yet on 5 separate occasions, she posted a video of herself dancing to "About Damn Time" with no credit to the choreographer.

She's not the only one. I love watching different creators do this dance, so I scrolled through several versions and almost none of them credit Jaeden. 

This happens all the time with dances, audio clips, music, everything; people rip stuff off all the time without credit. And the thing is, most choreographers and artists really don't mind if you use/borrow/post their stuff. But they do want the credit, as they should. Exposure is a huge asset to a lot of these careers. 

Granted Lizzo has done some cool things for Jaeden, like performing the dance together and on The Late Late Show with James Cordon, and sending her merch from her new Yitty line. But still. If the work someones else give a huge boost to your career and grows your presence online, the least you can do is @ them every time you post their work.

Anyway, enjoy TikTok, credit your choreographers, and harass people who don't.
